The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) is preparing to publish the 47th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) circular, with plans to finalize the number of available positions in the near future. Regular discussions between the PSC and the Ministry of Public Administration are underway, focusing on developing a comprehensive plan for the upcoming BCS examination.

An official from the PSC shared, “We have already started preparations for the 47th BCS. The PSC Chairman has assigned Professor Delwar Hossain the overall responsibility for the coordination of this BCS. In every BCS exam, a member is tasked with overseeing the entire process, and we have started this planning earlier than usual to ensure the process is completed on time.”

When asked about the publication date of the 47th BCS circular, the PSC Examination Controller stated, “The circular will be published as per our usual schedule. This time, we plan to include a detailed timetable for each step of the process, so that we can complete everything in a timely manner.”

PSC’s Strategic Plan: Reducing the Timeframe for 47th BCS

The PSC has undertaken an extensive plan to streamline the 47th BCS process. From the release of the circular to the preliminary, written, and viva exams, the entire timeline will be fixed in advance. The aim is to implement a strategy to minimize the overall processing time, allowing candidates to avoid the long waiting periods experienced in previous BCS exams. To achieve this goal, the assigned member in charge has been instructed to finalize the plan.

PSC sources revealed that regular discussions are being held with the Ministry of Public Administration to quickly determine the number of positions for the 47th BCS. The PSC has already requested demand letters from various ministries and departments. Once the number of positions is finalized, the circular will be released.

Insights from the 46th BCS Process

The experiences from the 46th BCS are helping shape preparations for the upcoming BCS exams. The 46th BCS circular was published on November 30, last year, with the preliminary exam conducted on May 9 of this year. Out of 254,561 candidates, 10,638 were successful, representing a participation rate of approximately 75%. There were a total of 3,140 positions, with the majority in the health cadre. A total of 1,682 assistant surgeons and 16 assistant dental surgeons were selected for recruitment in the health sector. Additionally, 520 candidates were chosen for various positions in the education cadre.

The PSC emphasized the importance of setting a fixed timeline for this massive recruitment process to ensure its smooth completion. This experience will be crucial in organizing the 47th BCS efficiently.

45th BCS Written Exam Results Set for Quick Release

The PSC is also working diligently on the evaluation of the written exams for the 45th BCS. The marking process is almost complete, with answer scripts already reviewed by second examiners. The next step is to send the scripts to third examiners to ensure accuracy. The written exam took place from January 23 to January 31, nearly seven months ago.

In the 45th BCS, 2,309 candidates will be recruited as cadres and 1,022 as non-cadres. The highest recruitment is in the medical cadre, with 539 positions for assistant surgeons and dental surgeons combined. The second-largest recruitment is in the education cadre, with a total of 437 positions. Other recruitment plans include 80 positions in the police force, 54 in customs, and 274 in the administrative cadre.

The circular for the 45th BCS was published on November 30, 2022, and the preliminary exam results were announced on June 6 of the previous year. Out of the 346,000 applicants, 268,119 candidates participated, resulting in a 77.24% attendance rate. A total of 12,789 candidates passed the preliminary exam and advanced to the written exam phase.

A PSC official stated, “The evaluation by the second examiner is nearly finished. After final checks, the scripts will be sent to the third examiner. We are pushing to complete the process as quickly as possible to publish the written exam results on time.”

The PSC is determined to make the 47th BCS a more organized and planned process. The timeline for the entire process, including circular publication, preliminary, written, and viva exams, will be set in advance.
